Nuthatch Cellars friends and family help in the winemaking process.
Owners John Bacon and Jane Smith met over a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon 27 years ago and through Nuthatch Cellars, the romance continues. Dedicated solely to making big red wines, we search throughout the Pacific Northwest for great vineyard sites where varietal clone selection, elevation, and orientation, combined with dedicated, exacting vineyard owners brings fruit to its highest expression. We are incredibly fortunate to have located a handful of these sites to partner with in the creation of our wine. For a more in-depth explanation of our vineyards, please see that section.
Winemaking in a small winery is at times a solitary, almost meditative pursuit. At other times, like crush, pressing, and bottling, it takes on the aspect of a barn-raising. Close friends seasonally lend their hands, goodwill, and hearts. In exchange for their help we provide great meals, and, of course, great wine!
